as I mentioned in some earlier post, the idea at disney was to have the BEAUTY AND THE BEAST story take place in the french LOIRE-area. there were some earlier locations like the black forest in southern germany and the neighbouring french alsace, but – maybe because of the french author CHARLES PERRAULT – everybody seemed to be happy with the loire area with its beautiful castles.

I also have a few pictures.

Update: Dr. Slough written up  Here

Tektonik Apreciation hour

tIt’s a dance craze that infected French kids about a year or so ago. It has a little bounce to it, but it’s the flashy rubberband-like arm movements that give its distinct appeal. 70’s disco Soul Train, 80’s breakdancing. Poofy hightops, tight jeans. Mullets. This is Tektonik (cue music). (more…)

Spec Work Roundup

Spec work, simply put, is speculative work, work for maybe-profits down the road, or just for creds. For example, someone has an idea for a T-shirt. It is expensive to print T-shirts, so we can’t pay you now to make the design. But if well sell lots of shirts we’ll pay you later, plus you will get lots of publicity. How about that?

Trying to make a living doing something creative will have you facing it almost every day, especially if you are just getting started and are just about ready to take any job you can find.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve encountered lots of good reads on the subject, so here are links.

This first one was actually from a discussion thread from a forum for Flash animators.

The funniest / saddest job posting you will see

This next one is a site that is aaaall about it.

Shameless Plug, have you no shame?

I am in the process of getting some of those old designs on shirts in my spare time.
I’ve got a rabbit lover’s theme, a cat lover’s theme, and I should find those old drummer-themed t-shirt designs to upload too — those were the only one that ever sold on Cafepress.

I am dealing with Zazzle nowadays, partly because they have fun bells and whistles like the flashy thing below, but mainly because they have something cafepress should have thought of doing from the start; having a networking/community. Web 1.0, meet Web 2.0.
