Whenever DDC plays, we try to learn a new song fitting to the locale.

Here’s our themesong for last month’s gig at Godzilla bar “Zille” on Görlitzerstr.

DDC–Godzilla (Blue Oyster Cult cover)

It should be pointed out that this wasn’t a Japanese Godzilla bar, but rather named after Saxon-born illustration Heinrich Godzilla (1858 – 1929), whose comical illustration served to give biting commentary on the harsh conditions of the 19th century industrialized working poor. His drawings also oft featured what is now known as the “Godzilla butt”.

What a giggle it was to perform at Schaubudensommer! We even got groovy laminated backstage passes.

Ron made an audio recording of the show, but only starting after the first two songs. It’s badly clipped, but the magic of home studio technology made it somewhat listenable. Here’s Wasting Away, a crowd pleaser for some reason.

It was a buh-last playing for all those nice folks on Friday! The evening was a success. I’d like to that the Showboys and the Fills for playing before us and captivating the audience. Also I’d like to that Orange for having us. I’d like to thank the neighbors for not calling the cops even though we left the door open; it was a tiny room, boy, was it a hot night–in Dresden terms. And most of all, I want to thank all the cool folks who came, cheered, danced, patronized our illegal bar, got sexy, and simply made the whole affair worthwhile.

We played “Stupidest People” for the preliminary round of the Songslam. There’s no video available just yet from Friday, but here’s the song from Zille:

But wait there’s more! Remember that time we got “inspired” and came up with the idea for she was? That was also the day of conception for 4 or 5 more proto-songs, amongst them, this one. And at least for this example, the first run improv worked out for the whole song, save a few revisions.
