For those of us in Nashville needing a good Jazz fix this week:

Thelonious Monk's 88th Birthday Celebration will be held at The Belcourt Theatre in Nashville on October 10, 2005. This celebration is a star-studded performance featuring Jeff Coffin and Roy "Futureman" Wooten, members of five time Grammy-winning B?la Fleck and the Flecktones, and local jazz legends Rod McGaha, Charlie Peacock, Bruce Dudley and others. Monk was known to entertain his extended family by finding new ways to play "Happy Birthday" for his nieces and nephews. The memory and spirit of Monk lives on in Nashville with this special birthday celebration of his life and music.
