Two thousand ten? Fuck yeah.
The last part of the light display really puts a nice bow on it, eh?
Our friendly rivals gigging at a prison. A most interesting interpretation of the song “Bonanza”. I especially liked what they did in the verse that starts with “every tree and flower”.
A documentary about Raymond Scott has recently come out. Below is a very interesting preview for the film.
Scott is perhaps best known for the composition “Power House”, which was often used in WB cartoons in the 40s onwards. He was not only a successful bandleader and composer, but also a hacker who built some of the earliest synthesizers. One person in the doc likened him to both Frank Zappa and Andy Warhol. Another, DJ Spooky, said succinctly, imagine if Mozart could build violins. I think rather: imagine if Mozart invented new stringed instruments.

I like Heeby Jeeby Comix.
Targeted at kids, but somewhat sinister and whacky. And very cutely illustrated. For example, this one, which is about a dead baby found abandoned in a forest. It’s adorable!
