More Butter

“Wake up, It’s time to get the butter,” my older brother told me, shaking me in my bed.  It was early, so early that it was still dark out, and now it was time to carry out whatever plan Michael had told me about while we were putting our pajamas on.

“Be quite” he said as I followed him downstairs in the dark.

He opened the refridgerator door, and handed me two cool sticks of butter from the plastic drawer.  I had never seen such a thing as refridgerated butter in the wrapper before.  It looked like creamy bars of gold. I was two.

We took our booty and hoarded it in Mike’s desk, a little rickety brown think that Mom also used as a little girl.  Speaking of whom, she had now awakened and was explaining to us, with a level of patience that–now come to think of it–was quite admirable, that keeping butter in the desk would attract flies.

For years after, whenever I saw that little desk, I would examine the screwholes on the desktop, left behind from some part of the desk that was removed eons before.  I would I wonder if flies could really fit through them.

Itinerar

I’ll be taking the night train up to dickes B (oben an der Spree) on the 21st, maybe say hi to T and catch a Mitfahrgelegenheit on the morning of the 22nd into DD. Crashing at big O’s in exchange for watering the crops and keeping Sheldon out.

Terry’s a composer, Janne’s a novelist.  And when the met, it was murder.

Tektonik Apreciation hour

tIt’s a dance craze that infected French kids about a year or so ago. It has a little bounce to it, but it’s the flashy rubberband-like arm movements that give its distinct appeal. 70’s disco Soul Train, 80’s breakdancing. Poofy hightops, tight jeans. Mullets. This is Tektonik (cue music). (more…)

The Birds Today

Wilbur and Orville have now both taken to wing, the older one already two days ago, the second one just yesterday.

Unfortunately we weren’t witness to their first airborne flaps. Just like the hatching, one minute they seemed to start doing it, and then suddenly a day later they just did it.

Nonetheless, we’re both quite excited and proud of the little ones. It’s odd to be so fascinated by something so mundane. But then again, we don’t get out much.

How’s ya boids, Julio?

Those birds are getting big. They appear fully feathered, and resemble the parents in two aspects, the first being a little bit of yellow fluff is visible yet and the second that they won’t fly away.
